Aesthetic acupuncture: eliminates wrinkles and tones the skin

aesthetic acupuncture
aesthetic acupuncture

The “aesthetic acupuncture” treatments in Traditional Chinese Medicine are already documented in the ancient Chinese text Huangdi Neijing (the legendary Canon of Internal Medicine of the Emperor compiled between 305 and 204 BC to teach the people how to prevent disease and live healthy) and derive from the treatments intended for the treatment of the face and cellulite carried out by the doctors of the Imperial Court and consisted essentially in acupuncture and massage (tuinà).

The first needles for acupuncture were made of stone and then of bone and bamboo.
The use of needles stimulates the production of energy at the cellular level, the synthesis of collagen, the blood and lymphatic circulation, the oxygenation of the tissues thus improving the appearance of wrinkles, complexion, skin texture, hydration and brightness.
The method improves local circulation and oxygenation, thus accelerating the production of new fibroblasts, with the consequent increase in collagen and elastin.
Over time, the complexion will appear more vital and uniform, while swelling, bags under the eyes and discoloration will be reduced.
Anti-aging acupuncture also acts on the legs, fighting water retention and cellulite.

The technique is practically painless and free of side effects. In some cases, small bruises may occur which disappear within a few days.

The number of sessions necessary to obtain appreciable results varies from person to person: approximately 8-10 are needed.

Do you suffer from asthma? Naturopathy can help you get better through nutrition!

asthma and naturopathy

Do you know that you can aid your asthma problems with food?
On the Happiness Recipe website, created in collaboration with the talented Chef Michela Saragoni, you will find many recipes created to help your small and large health problems through a healthy and targeted diet.

Today I want to talk about asthma.

Bronchial asthma can be allergic or infectious in nature.

If you have bronchial hypersensitivity as in the first case, it can be triggered by external agents, such as irritants, pollutants and various allergens (dust, animal hair, foods or pollen).

In the second case, however, asthma can be caused by pathogenic factors such as viruses and bacteria that can infect the airways.

  • wheezing
  • cough
  • breathing difficulties
  • lack of oxygen
  • feeling of suffocation

Asthma is a disorder of mainly allergic origin, foods containing allergenic substances such as milk and dairy products, eggs, nuts, shellfish, cold cuts, alcohol, chocolate should be avoided.

Whole grains, legumes, oily fish, oil seeds, extra virgin olive oil, vegetables (better not to overdo it with tomatoes, potatoes, aubergines, peppers and chilli) and fruit (avoiding the fruits that can create more allergic problems such as kiwi and strawberries).

A vegetarian diet helps in fighting thigys patholo.

Recommended decoctions, infusioini and intake of helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum), black currant (Ribes nigrum), lantana (Viburnum lantana), black alder (Alnus glutinosa).

Kinesio Tape: a valid aid with multiple benefits

Kinesio Tape

Kinesio Tape was born from the studies of a Japanese chiropractor Kenzo Kase at the beginning of the 70s but only arrived in Europe after the 90s. Now it has almost become a “fashion” as famous athletes show it off during sports performances.

Let’s start from the fact that taping is a non-invasive and non-pharmacological technique (the tape does not contain active ingredients or analgesic substances) which, through the application of an adhesive and elastic tape with particular mechanical elastic characteristics, offers a mechanical stimulation capable of create space in the tissues, promote cell metabolism, activate the body’s natural healing abilities and normalize neuromuscular proprioception.
It is therefore based on the application of these elastic patches that follow the length of the muscle and tendon to support and protect their movement. Through the compressive action they favor the reabsorption of small edema (facilitating lymphatic drainage) or inflammation. They also protect joints such as the knee, ankle and shoulder.

Kinesio-tape is commonly used for:

  • Reduce the pain
  • Drain the swelling
  • Improve your posture
  • Improve functionality
  • Facilitate an early return to activity or sport
  • Improve sports performance

Some reliable studies also show that:

  • Increases power and strength in the recovery of muscle injuries
  • It improves pain, range of motion and functionality
  • Raise the anaerobic threshold of the muscle during an endurance exercise

Why so many colors of Kinesio Tape?

Color is more a matter of preference than functionality. Rubber bands are ALL THE SAME. However, if one is an expert in chromotherapy, he will know the effect of color in contact with our skin. So in the case of contractures and back pain, for example, red increases the blood supply and heat; the blue, on the other hand, recalls a cooling condition, useful for relieving inflammation, pain and swelling; beige, a “neutral” color, allows to neutralize pain, while black helps muscle recovery and trophism.

Contraindications of Kinesio Tape

None unless you are allergic to the glue contained in the tape. But at worst the system is not very effective if applied poorly, but certainly not harmful.

Similar advice also applies in case of pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Cupping: what it is and what it is for

Also known as cupping, it involves a real aspiration on the skin locally via glass, bamboo and ceramic cups and mugs.
The application usually lasts from 5 to 20 minutes and no longer because it actually creates a very strong stimulus.
Cupping is part of traditional Chinese medicine practices and cups can also be applied to the so-called reflex zones of the body, working the internal organs through the meridians.
With cupping you can treat problems with blood, phlegm, yellow bile, black bile, according to the ancient oriental tradition.
Painful symptoms due to humidity, cold or trauma could be relieved thanks to the action on strategic points. Anxiety, insomnia, depression, obsessive thoughts relax. It recirculates the fluids in the body and helps all internal organs, also excellent for relieving pains resulting from cold or little movement and in cases of arthrosis.
This technique is great for unblocking the blood and lymphatic systems.
When there are blockages at the lymphatic level, inflammations such as cellulite occur, which at all levels is a stagnation of water inside the tissues, the body holds it back and with it motle emotions. In all these cases the cupping is phenomenal.

It is always advisable to rely on valid operators who know where to place the cups and never exceed the recommended application time, as this could trigger various contraindications.

Relaxation of soft tissues and connective tissues;
Increased blood and lymph supply;
Elimination of waste substances and toxins by the cells of the body.

To have a good memory, you don't need to be an elephant!

Have a good memory in chinese medicine

Being an elephant as a well-known cliché says, would help to have a good memory. But unfortunately we, who are not elephants, often forget things.

Without leading to serious pathologies, we simply sometimes forget things. Perhaps too loaded with the stress of every day, perhaps too much information passes into the brain and above all we are less and less focused on the concept of HERE AND NOW. We always live with our heads somewhere else and we cannot stay in the present moment.

According to TCM, the memory problem is the fault of three Zhang organs: Spleen (Yi), Heart (Shen) and Kidney (Zhi).

First of all we must distinguish between: short and long term memory and explicit memory and implicit (or procedural) memory

If you want to pass an exam, focus on the Spleen: it presides over the ability to concentrate and memorize which is useful in studying and learning.

If, on the other hand, you want to increase short-term memory, your attention must be on the Kidney who is responsible for storing recent events and “saving” them so that they can be converted into long-term memory.

When the energy of the kidney is insufficient, the ability to retain recent information in memory is reduced.

The Heart has a connection with the memorization of events from the distant past. This function of the Heart of calling to mind is called intellect (Ling Shu).

Yi and Zhi are connected to explicit memory (remembering words, events, episodes), Shen is mainly used for implicit memory (automatic actions, skills …)

Working too much, age, excessive activity, deplete the YIN of the Kidney, weakening mental power and memory.

Worries and the aptitude for brooding exhaust the energy of the Spleen and Heart.

More pregnancies create a deficiency of Xue (blood), especially of the Heart, with reduced capacity to nourish the brain with consequent forgetfulness.

Sadness also depletes the energy of the Heart and compromises its functions.

In Naturopathy how to help the memory

Avoid all foods rich in saturated fats and cholesterol (fatty meats, cheeses and products of animal origin in general)
Use green tea which is an antioxidant and helps keep the brain young.

Phosphorus is another fundamental element for our memory.

Banana is a recommended fruit as it contains magnesium. Unsaturated fats promote cognitive functions: the brain needs “good fats” such as fish, olive oil and dried fruits.

  • Indian Ginseng
  • Rosemary
  • Shankhpushpi
  • Rhodiola
  • Ginko
  • Australian Flowers and Bach Flowers

Are you always tired? Check your nutrition

Are you always tired even if you do nothing? Blame work, heat, family, sports, but maybe your real problem is food.
First of all, before going to a naturopath, do specific tests to find out if you are intolerant / allergic to any food.
Food intolerances are often a major cause of chronic fatigue.

The most frequent symptoms are:

  • Insomnia
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Cramps
  • Diarrhea
  • Exhaustion
  • Depression
  • Headache
  • Drowsiness
  • Lowering of the immune defenses

Elimination of coffee, tea, cola and refined sugars. These substances deplete the adrenal glands, which are responsible for releasing hormones such as adrenaline and noradrenaline (stress hormones). To improve the adrenal glands use Cordyceps sinensis.

Eat lots of green leafy vegetables, beets, foods rich in magnesium such as peanuts, almonds, nuts, oil seeds, whole grains (excellent oats), grapes, dark chocolate (rich in magnesium), legumes and foods rich in probiotics such as yogurt

Other tips focus on
Siberian Ginseng and Acai to reduce stress and physical fatigue.
Maca, Guarana and Ginseng to restore energy and vitality and improve the immune system
Bach flowers for physical (Olive, Oak) and mental (White Chestnut, Hornbeam, Clematis, Wild Rose, Larch) fatigue

How to fight stress and help depression with acupuncture

As we said in the previous article on emotions in TCM, the psychological factor influences many aspects of our health.

Shen is the vitality of the organism.

It is the external expression of the vital activities of the organism.
Represents the set of mental-spiritual activities of the person, that is what we identify with the spirit.

Through acupuncture, the state of Shen can be improved by helping our body and mind to re-grow and improve the general state of health.
Sometimes we are simply in a particularly stressful time and we just need to relax our mind.
Recomended Tradicional Acupuncture and Auricolotherapy.

Here you can find a scientific article about how to treat depression with acupuncture.

Obviously, acupuncture can’t treat severe depression and you should consult a doctor for this. But, the evidence is supports the fact that acupuncture may be able to improve depression, anxiety, and stress.
